Visit the historic Lipica Stud Farm, where the world-famous Lipizzaner horses have been bred for more than four centuries. Following a picturesque journey across the border of nearby Slovenia and through the scenic Karst region, you’ll arrive at the pastoral Lipica Stud Farm, a Slovenian national treasure dedicated to the Lipizzaner horses, known for their noble appearance and superiority in dressage. Learn that the farm was established in 1580 when Archduke Charles II of Austria converted the abandoned summer residence of the Bishop of Trieste. You’ll tour the magnificent stables, a riding hall, a small chapel and the compelling manor complex. Strolling with your guide, you’ll hear of the revered breed’s history, their traditional riding programs and how the farm has evolved over the centuries. Delight in watching the horses in action, during either an actual performance or a training session, and marvel at their light step, proud attitude and surprising acrobatic feats. You’ll relish additional time on your own to further explore the farm that this stately and cherished equine breed calls home.

  • Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • This tour includes approximately 90 minutes of moderate walking/standing, plus any additional walking at the guest’s discretion during free time. There will be some uneven surfaces and steps to negotiate. The tour is available to guests who utilize a collapsible wheelchair, are able to make their own way on and off the coach and have an able-bodied companion to assist them. Guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina.
